Our Mission

Above the R.I.M.; To Reach, Inspire, and Motivate individuals through sports (basketball). We will promote a continuous knowledge base and produce a high quality of life by developing character, relational skills, communication skills, and sound decision making skills through team work and dedication from the entire community and beyond.

The Midnight Basketball League Program, Inc. (MNBLP, Inc.) is an educational crime prevention program that will focus predominately on high-risk youth and young adults. Although sports as a whole are used to amass a target audience, contingencies will be applied as the participants must attend a series of educational awareness sessions; i.e. Health & Wellness, Leadership Empowerment, High School Diploma/GED and Employment preparation. Academically, our focus will be centered on Economic Development. The areas of basic finance are not as strong, particularly in the African-American communities. Modeled after the Midnight Basketball League Program in the Western Regions, it provides recreational activity as a link to connect to outreach youth and young adults. The pilot program was/is extremely successful, which began in March, 1986.

The Nashville Chapter will run the program once per week, beginning with a mandatory 45 minute workshop. The topics and information on ancillary services will be presented, followed by basketball games. This program is designed for young adults in the Metro-Nashville Communities (initially for ages 18-24).  We will begin September, 2010.  Based on the original program started in California, our goal for year-one will be to obtain 80-100 participants with eight teams.

One of the best parts of the program is the chance it offers young people to change their current situation. By offering scholarships to trade schools and community colleges, these young people have a chance to move ahead with their lives. After a participant reaches the maximal age, he will graduate from the program, encouraged to continue with the program in some sort of capacity.
